Forcella Moschesin

The decision to fortify and garrison troops at Forcella Moschesin began to take shape at around the turn of the last century. In 1906 the High Command was faced with a new request from the local municipal authorities, which were pressing for the building of a road through the Forcella Staulanza. The High Command maintained that its construction would facilitate Italian permanent defence lines being outflanked along the Cordevole and the Boite. Yet, there was still the need to strengthen the Val di Zoldo frontier. It was thus decided to position troops in various places, Forcella Moschesin being one of these. Here it was decided to erect a refuge on the pass to be garrisoned by a platoon of guards. The project for its construction was approved by the C.S.M. Command on 3rd March 1910.

The Pramparet shelter stands on the great divide between the Val Pramperet and the Val Coster dei Nass, in the Dolomiti Bellunese National Park. It is immersed in mountain pines facing the peaks of the Moschesin and the northern slopes of the Cime de Zita peaks. The story of the shelter is closely associated with Giovanbattista Sommariva from Forno di Zoldo. In the 1950's he renovated a former hunting lodge that had been burned down in WWII.
