The weather was not great..... in fact it was almost a white out with mist. Following the conventional route down to Pian de Menis before climbing up the other side to Rifugio Scioatolli (and Cinqe Terre) and on to Rifugio Averau was going to be quite a long day...... probably 20 km and 700 m of climbing. My legs were quite tired after the Lavarella-Lagazuoi walk, and I did not fancy this long day as there would be little to see in the mist, and I had done it before. Hence I opted to take the cable car down from Lagazuoi to Passo Falzarego, to take a bus from Falzarego to Bai de Dones, and take the chair lift from Bai de Dones to Rifugio Scoiatolli. I took the 9 a.m. cable car down, and was at Rifugio Scoiatolli at 10-10 hrs! I was able to book a table for lunch for 12 noon when the remainder of the group arrived.

Below I have shown my figures, and also figures for the group based on Paul's Outdoor Active stats. I have also added a page to show the group what the walk would have been like for them on the conventional route if they had had clear weather.

There are purists who wish to walk every step of the way no matter what. Then there are those who say, hang oin a minute, does it make sense to do this? I am one of the latter.
