Scales Tarn - 7th October
2010
3 hours 40 minutes
We parked one car at Thirlkeld at the public
carpark near the Blencathra Centre ready for our descent from the
fell, and then drove up the main road to Scales where we managed
to park in a small car park at the end of the road. From here we
started the long and fairly steep hike to Scales Tarn. Although
it was a very pleasant day, Sharp Edge was engulfed in mist and
we were a bit concerned about it being slippy underfoot, so we decided
not to do Sharp Edge. Instead we climbed away from Scales Tarn on
the right hand trail, stopping from time to time to watch other
walkers who were progressing up the Edge. Some were moving really
slowly, sometimes on all fours, so they were obviously taking things
carefully.
